چکیده

Methods We conducted a cross-sectional analysis on chronic HCVinfected adult patients, monitored at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases “Prof. Dr. Matei Balş”. Patients with diabetes mellitus, chronic alcohol consumption, other chronic liver diseases, HBV or HIV co-infections were excluded. We recorded demographic data, HCV infection history, personal and family history of CVR factors. We measured height and weight for body mass index, waist to hip ratio, blood pressure and we assessed the 10 years CVR using Framingham score. Blood samples were tested for lipid profile, serum glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), liver enzymes, and viral load (VL). Liver histology was assessed by Fibromax (Biopredictive).

Development of a Recombinant Based ELISA using Specific Antibodies to F Protein in HCV Chronically Infected Patients-A Seroprevalence Study

Background and Aims: The hepatitis C virus (HCV) F protein is a recently described, frameshift product of HCV core encoding sequence. Its function and antigenic properties are unknown. In order to assess the presence of antibodies specific for F protein we characterized specific anti-F antibodies in patients with chronic HCV infection. Methods: The F protein was cloned from the HCV genome....

Investigation of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) Class I and II Alleles and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Genotypes in Patients Infected with HCV

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major public health problem with more than 130-180 million people infected worldwide. Several studies in different populations have reported the association of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes, and HCV viral load, and genotypes. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible association between HLA class I and II alleles in HCV-infected patients and heal...

SAFETY AND EFFICACY OF INTERFERON ALFA FOR THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC HEPATITIS C INFECTED SUBJECTS WITH TRANSFUSION DEPENDENT THALASSEMIA IN IRAN

Up to 30% of Iranian adult multi-transfused thalassemic patients are infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) which can intensify the progression of liver disease caused by iron overload in this group of patients. Our aim was to assess the biochemical and virological response of interferon alfa (INF-α) and its safety in thalassemic patients with chronic HCV infection. This trial was a single c...

Metabolic disturbances in liver 1H MR spectroscopy in HIV and HCV co-infected patients as a potential marker of hepatocyte activation.

PURPOSE To evaluate proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) features in order to assess hepatocellular activation in chronic hepatitis C and human immunodeficiency virus/hepatitis C (HIV/HCV) co-infected patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS Liver in vivo 1H MR spectra were obtained in 14 patients with hepatitis C virus infection (HCV), 20 HIV/HCV co-infected individuals, and 24 healthy volu...
